Diversity and Social Cohesion
Building bridges between artistic and social communities and stimulating a love of diversity in the arts has long been a guiding principal of UNIMA South Africa.
The aim of the international association is to promote peace through the art of puppetry. In South Africa, racial divides run deep in our society. UNIMA SA works consistently to bring artists and audiences from diverse backgrounds together to encourage interaction and stimulate understanding through the artistic languages of being human.
Out the Box
Out The Box was historically a 10 day festival of puppetry and visual performance that brought over 70 local and international performing groups together in Cape Town annually. While the festival no-longer runs regularly, UNIMA SA is in the process of designing other programs to speak to provide a platform for multiple performing artists to experience each other’s work.
