Active Puppets focusses on youth at risk. The project works with young adults providing support, training and opportunities to create complete works of puppet theatre. The focus of these works is on socially urgent communications ranging from encouraging literacy to supporting cultural and gender diversity and environmental sustainability. Active puppets builds social cohesion through generating positive identity.
Child’s Play provides creative skills to children who do not have access to arts and innovation in their educational environment.
Trainers in our skills and sustainability programmes are drawn both from community-based theatre-makers who have participated in Active Puppets in the past and from the professional community of South African puppeteers at large. Active Puppets and Child’s Play provide sustainability to artistic professionals through employment, upskilling trainers and nurturing professional networks.
